Canadian content is important

Social media means we can connect with parents around the world. Which is absolutely amazing…

BUT, it often means that our circles of connection become dominated by Americans, and the American experience and perspective.

Which often means we get recommended American products and begin to seek those out.

There’s probably a good Canadian alternative to most of the American products parents ask me for, but these brands lack the notoriety within social influence circles and the large presence on and offline. Don’t underestimate the sense of community that owning a brand name can create for a parent who feels overwhelmed and alone.

All of which is to say that I think Canadian baby brands are disadvantaged to succeed because they have to somehow get the notice of Canadian parents who are too busy being influenced by the mass of American parents.

As a Canadian who tried to be an influencer and blogger, most of my money and followers came from the states.

Now as a baby boutique owner, trying to connect Canadians with anything but American (importing USA is a whole big expense) is an interesting space to participate within.

Anyways, this is why Canadian content on Canadian radio is so important. How do we engage Canadians with Canadians in a world of international algorithms and trends?

Today, I did something I never imagined doing – I had a settlement conference following a small claims suit I made earlier this year. I filed for financial compensation following negligence of bookkeeping services that I hired out for almost 18 months.  The thing about small claims court is they really want you to nail […]

Prince George, BC | My Rhododendron Died

I’m from BC’s southwest coast, rhododendrons grow everywhere. They are the hedge plant of everything, but in Prince George, BC you will be hard pressed to find a rhododendron because they are just not zone 3 plants.  When we purchased our current home we were surprised to discover a rhododendron – but there was much […]
