This is a pretty big announcement because it means making a decision that kinda conflicts with my heart. For three years I have actively participated in the cloth diaper space as an advocate for all the cloth diaper brands speaking loudly for the small brands and for the need to try all the diapers before committing to a single one.
I have said before I would never become brand loyal. I have been approached by brands in the past to be an ambassador or rep and always made clear that I would never be brand exclusive. I would continue to post about and work with other brands. But it’s time to change that.
Here I am today standing in front of you telling you I have made a decision to work directly with a cloth diaper brand as an employee; as their Director of Happiness.
This means becoming brand exclusive.
This decision does not come without serious consideration and without the conversation about what my voice will sound like as I move forward. It might be complicated for the first couple of weeks and months as we work through the moves to change my passions and shift my heart. I have always loved this brand and I do advocate for them already as a member of the community, but in my new job, I just need to do that more.
Truthfully, my youngest is enthusiastically embracing the potty and I have been wondering what cloth diaper retirement will look like for me. This is kind of one way it will look.
I started the Cloth Diaper Podcast earlier this summer as my way to stay connected to the beat of the industry and to provide a space for storytelling and information sharing. The Cloth Diaper Podcast will continue to exist as just that. It will be a space to share and talk about cloth diapering in an unbranded space without personal opinion.
The Cloth Diaper Podcast will continue to post about cloth diapers and cloth diaper news without personal opinion that conflicts with the brand I now work with. I will continue to create YouTube videos but they will strive to be more educational and informational.
If you are a cloth diaper brand who wants to work with me, the cloth diaper pdocast is the place where I will be more than happy to share your story with the goal of stregthening the cloth diaper community. Email bailey@clothdiaperpodcast.com to be on the show or work with me.
However, I will be transitioning my own voice and content to speak for the brand I am employed for and this means I will become slightly more brand exclusive than you think of me. This blog will continue to share objective blog posts on cloth diaper reviews if I have the time.
I am not perfect. I will make mistakes in my first little as I transition from a free-spirited blogger to an employee.
Why am I making this move?
Because this is an incredible opportunity for me to grow my skills and develop in a branded space. I am currently working on my Public Relations degree and my goal is to work with a brand supporting and advocating for them in all the ways I know. I just never thought it would happen in an industry I am already crazy passionate about cloth diapers.
This blog does not make money. I make some money from ad revenue (a whopping $36 last month) and some money from affiliate links ($50 last month). Very seldom do brands approach me to work together and even less do they want to pay me for the amount of work, dedication and passion that goes into a blog post or promotion. I made $25 last month in this. I’m just not the big professional blogger brands are looking to work with or pay money to. Sometimes authenticity doesn’t make you popular.
This blog is a passion project which takes a lot of financial sacrifices but in the end, has led me to my current job offer. In reflecting on that, I know it’s time to be okay with being brand exclusive for the opportunity to work with a brand I love and admire.
This is a job that lets work flexible hours. This is a part-time to full-time job. This is a job with a brand I admire and work closely with. This is a local cloth diaper brand. Well, as local as it can get.
This is an incredible opportunity to develop my career objectives which ultimately are more important than my blog dreams.
I’m flabbergasted that my blog help lead me to this job and I am excited to grow as a person and support this brand in growing.
I will finish up the month with the few reviews I do have in the pipe and starting December you will begin to see more brand exclusivity from me. I will be muddling around with how that looks. I really do want to still stay tapped into the cloth diaper community.
Thanks for following me on this journey.
I know many of you have addressed some concerns as I mention my potential for brand exclusivity and I want you to know it wasn’t a decision made lightly and this is more about my career developments. It’s just perfect. It’s an industry I love. It’s skills I have.
I will probably still blog about cloth diapering on this page, but it will begin to look different as I strive for objective information over opinion on which diaper is better or best; especially when it comes to competition with the brand I’m employed with.
I still will blog with Northern BC Moms about everything local to Northern BC.
