Pooters Hemp Fitted Review

This is a bucket list diaper. For years, and years, I have heard of Pooters Hemp Diapers as being a bullet proof overnight cloth diaper solution – but I couldn’t justify importing the diaper into Canada when I already had a product that worked great for me .  That does make it strange to purchase a diaper… but I’m dedicated to trying all the diapers and giving you high quality photos to help make a decision if it’s right for you. I’m also working on ensuring that I represent more Black-owned businesses because that’s been a gap in my work for many years.

Disclosure: I use affiliate links on many of my website pages. I do not have an affiliate for Pooters but I do for AliExpress, linked below. I purchased this diaper at cost and this review is my true and honest opinion as a cloth diaper mama. I did not try it on my child, but welcome any updated feedback on that in the comments.

I will be doing a giveaway for a Pooters Hemp Fitted the week of August 17, 2020 on the Cloth Diaper Podcast Instagram Page.

About Pooters

Without giving the entire story away – because you should listen to show 51 of the Cloth Diaper Podcast – Pooters is a black-owned cloth diaper brand based out of Texas. These diapers were designed with love to conquer the overnight quest. Pooters diapers are manufactured overseas, and you’ll learn more about why that is on the podcast, but generally because that’s where the hemp product originated from.

Pooters does offer a No Leak Gaurantee – try it and if you’re not happy return it in 30 days.

Today Pooters has a hemp and cotton diaper, as well as cloth diaper cover on a separate blog post later this week. I just have the hemp fitted and the cover.

Pooters Hemp Overnight Fitted Diaper

This is a one size hemp fitted cloth diaper estimated to fit approximately 12-40 lbs.

A fitted cloth diaper is a diaper that is solely made of absorbent material and needs a cover to be used with it. You can use any type of cover – maybe check out this list of covers for fitted diapers – the cover sold by Pooters (see below) and/or wool or fleece covers. A cover will be needed to make the diaper set up waterproof.

Back to sizing, this diaper does not feature a traditional rise setting (snaps located on the exterior front of the diaper), but rather a snap down rise. Fold down, or snap-down, rises are popular in fitted diapers to adjust the length of the diaper for a smaller baby. This particular diaper allows you to snap it in place using two snaps found in the mid exterior front of the diaper. Once snapped in place, an new outer row of snaps appears across the front belly for a shorter fitting diaper. Use this snap down rise setting until you get bum crack, that maybe around 18-25lbs depending on your child – personal suggestion based on previous experience.

The diaper also features cross over snaps  that can be used to ensure you get a nice snug fit on smaller waisted children, as well can be used to roll the diaper up into a nice package when soiled.

The Absorbency of this diaper consists of the shell of the diaper, one longer insert, and one additional booster for an estimated 18 oz of absorbency. The longer insert can snap into the diaper and then be folded as you need it. It will fold in half for most babies but don’t be scared to fold the absorbency where you need it. An additional booster is provided and can lay on top or underneath.

This does make it less absorbent than some other high end diapers, but at only $19 USD it is priced competitively for what you get. You can purchase an additional overnight inserts for a total of 31 ounces and $28 USD. Compare that to the Sustainablebabyish BFF … 24 ounces for $33 USD... or  the Happy Flute Hemp Fitted Diaper on AliExpress at 15.5 ounces for $12 USD.

Overall, product in hand this diaper is made of a nice thick, but soft hemp blend material. It might even be too thick with a few cloth diaper parents on Instagram telling me they found the fit to be a bit on the bulkier side, but that is the cost of a fitted diaper and can be true amongst many different styles of diaper. I will include more comparisons at the bottom

The Pooters diaper is 55% hemp and 45% cotton with 6 layers of hemp. It is suggested that it takes only 3 washes to perform, I found that to be more like 4-5 washes but that’s really going to vary person-to-person based on your washing machine set up and the ability to remove and lift the oils froth material. You will know if your Pooters Hemp Fitted is absorbent if it can absorb without pooling and spilling liquid. You’ll also begin to notice a colour change as the product washes up. That’s totally normal and to be expected of most natural fibre cloth diapers. This diaper does notice some shrivel or bacon like texture as it dries. This is typical for many hemp products. Stretch it out, or just leave it be.

My Recommendation

This is definitely a worthy cloth diaper, and if you live in the United States and can easily purchase it definitely do. It’s a well built product with high absorbency and functionality.

I’m always cautious recommending international products because you may have to pay extra shipping and/or duties and taxes to import products. IF you are importing to Canada, try to use Canada Post over a courier – it might take longer but your less likely to pay high brokerage fees, you can also broker things through couriers yourself if you live in a bigger city.

This is a bit of a bulky diaper compared to other products. You’ll see it stacked with the Happy Flute hemp fitted and Sustainablebabyish fitted diaper and notice there is a bit of fluff there. This fluff is marginal in difference but worth noting. The Happy Flute Hemp fitted is significantly thinner and trimmer, but the quality of hemp is not the same. This diaper has a much nicer weave, softer fabric, and overall better absorbency performance.

Definitely try the Pooters Overnight Hemp Fitted if you are looking for an affordable overnight diaper that might just leave you with dry mornings #goals. I consistently get comments and messages saying that the Pooters Hemp fitted was a night time game changer. Hemp can be slow to absorb but that is also the greatest strength of this product as an overnight product allowing for a complete saturation of the product over 8-10 hours. If you have a quick peer, you might not have the same results but again that really does vary.

Pooters is currently available directly through www.pootersdiapers.com and a few retailers including Crunchy Boutique

I am also weary of the USD conversion rates and shipping costs. Can you recommend a cloth diaper that can be ordered in Canada. One that is cotton or hemp? Similar to the Pooters fitted style?
