Christmas 2018: Crunchy Mom Stocking Stuffers

Alright, Christmas. It’s around the corner, and we all know that lovely lady in your life wants to be remembered but she also wants to keep her Christmas eco-friendly. Depending on her style, she might even prefer you keep the gift wrap away. Trying to find out the perfect gift for that crunchy mom in your life is hard.

Crunchy moms want to reduce their waste and impact on the environment. They aren’t full hippies, but they do still have compassion for doing the trendy eco-friendly thing this holiday season.

You might find my Mother’s Day Gift Guide for the cloth diaper mom helpful.

My first piece of advice is to ditch Amazon. Amazon over packages everything and reduces the success of small businesses. Search for these products at local boutiques or online shops. I’ve included a few online shops I like to shop at for my eco-friendly gear with each suggestion.

Some of these links are affiliate links which I do earn a commission from. But some of them are just pure love. #disclosure.

These are all eco-friendly stocking stuffers. That means I’ve kept it small, and I’ve kept the trend of trying to be zero waste, or sustainable in some way.

Bamboo Tooth Brush

Toothbrushes are a necessity for stocking stuffers, but skip the plastic, and go for bamboo. A plastic toothbrush lives forever, but a bamboo truth brush breaks down, and only the bristles live forever.

Beeswax Wraps

You could buy Abeego Wraps, or you could buy gorgeous cotton created by other makers.

Beeswax Wraps replace saran wrap and other plastic wraps used to cover food. They are great for storing cheese, fruit, vegetables, herbs and more.

Find them on Etsy   – Evercoast Wraps (Canada) – The Baby Foot Print (Canada)

Coffee Sock.

I have been using a coffee sock for a year now and love it. My only problem is sometimes when I make a big strong pot of coffee the coffee drains slowly through the cotton filter and I end up with grounds overflowing into my coffee. But honestly, no big deal. I never run out of filters, and I love to have to not worry about buying them.

Cloth Produce Bags

Remember, as full-fledged adults, we get giddy over the boring things now. And cloth produce bags are amazing. They are so easy to use at the grocery store, they look amazing, and you’re sweet potatoes never break the bag and roll around the cart.

My favourite is the cotton mesh back from Oko Creations (I bought them at  The Baby Foot Print (Canada) ) , but there’s a variety of amazing makers out there including Canadian Omaiki. You can even find them on Etsy.

Anything Cloth

We could be here all day, but if you just wandered over to Marley’s Monsters (also available at  The Baby Foot Print (Canada)) and bought the entire store and then shoved it into the stocking, you’d have this cruchy zero waste mama thing down pat. Plus, everything is gorgeous. Also, check out these items on Etsy to find small makers rocking it out.

  • Reusable Tissues
  • UnPaper Towel
  • Reusable Sponges
  • Table Napkins
  • Bowl Covers
  • Facial Rounds (for cleaning your face)
  • Cloth Pads? – Maybe Omaiki (Canada)
  • Family Cloth – Yes, That’s a Thing

Mantra Bands

Mama mantras are always in, and these inspirational bracelets are a crowd pleaser for most determined moms.

Reusable Straws

It’s all the rage, and it totally fits in a stocking. If you don’t already have a stash of reusable straws, then you need to add these to the list. There are stainless steel ones, glass ones, and plastic ones.

I’ve only tried the stainless steel ones. Honestly, plastic straws while durable, they seem more likely to split, break and otherwise. Glass, I’m anxious, but I’ve heard good things.

Where to buy: LagoonBaby (Canada) The Baby Foot Print (Canada) Kelly’s Closet (USA) Diaper Junction (USA) and Amazon.

Affirmation Cards

While not entirely cruncny, or eco-friendly, I think this is a great stocking stuffer for those of us who need a little encouragement, love, and reminder of how much we are rocking life.

There’s a great selection on Amazon, check out Etsy, and visit your local book store.

Wet Bags

Not just for cloth diapers, wetbags are perfect for wrapping gifts and storing those reusable straws, straws, and more. You can’t give enough wetbags. Choose a print she’ll love from a brand she’ll love and you’re set. Seriously.

Maybe the Mini Mini Zip from AppleCheeks? Or a straw bag from Canadian Manufacturer Omaiki?

What would you get the crunchy mama in your life?

If you identify as a mom with an eco-conscious mindset, what are you asking for this Christmas? I know I’m dreaming of a composter under the tree, but there are a few ideas for my husband this Christmas

Prince George, BC | My Rhododendron Died

I’m from BC’s southwest coast, rhododendrons grow everywhere. They are the hedge plant of everything, but in Prince George, BC you will be hard pressed to find a rhododendron because they are just not zone 3 plants.  When we purchased our current home we were surprised to discover a rhododendron – but there was much […]
