My youngest is six months, and she can overload a disposable diaper. Sleeping long stretches at night with nighttime snacks on the boob results in a massive amount of urine output. To tackle this heavy load, I turn to fitted cloth diapers or doubled flat diapers. Unforatenly, both of these options are somewhat bulky, and not just any cloth diaper cover will do. No. Instead, only the biggest and bulkiest of covers are most suitable to cover a fluffy absorbant butt.

I have three g0-to cloth diaper covers for fitted diapers at a night time. Well, if you include wool. I have four. But I’m not including wool, because of today, let’s talk about PUL or TPU based cloth diaper covers.
Cloth Diaper Covers for Fitted Diapers
The key characteristic of a cloth diaper cover for fitted diapers is it needs to be spacious. It needs to have wide wings, a little more room in the back and a higher rise. The objective is to cover an already bulky fitted cloth diaper. For this reason, I immediately rule out my Best Bottom (OS & Bigger) and Buttons OS cloth diaper covers. I also say goodbye to my Flip cover and SmartBottoms Too Smart because they just don’t have the right shape.
That leaves just a few lingering contenders, and while my Rumparooz cover does a great job, and so does the Thirsties Duo Sized Cover, they are not my favourite cloth diaper covers for fitted diapers.
And yes, I know about wool. I love wool. Especially my interlock HumBird Wool. But today’s focus is on PUL & TPU based covers.
Best of the Best
I reach for my Nuggles Tuck & Go Cover, Buttons Super, and my choice of either a Blueberry Capri or Coverall for night time cloth diapering of my little ones.
- Nuggles Tuck-Wrap-Go Cover: This cover is seriously underrated. Nuggles Tuck & Go Cover comes in two sizes. A size 1 for tinier babies and a size 2 for the rest of the chunks. To be completely honest, the Tuck and Go Cover isn’t the best-looking fit Nuggles; however, because it covers a fitted diaper so perfectly and with ease, I continue to grab it. #looksarenoteverything Tuck-Wrap-Go Covers are my first choice.
- Blueberry Capri & Coverall: While these diapers offer two different shapes and styles of cover, they both offer the same great long lasting coverage over a fitted cloth diaper. I prefer the fit of the Capri to the coverall.
- Buttons Super: The best part of a Buttons Super cover is the front elastic giving an all-around perfect fit for every cloth diapered baby.
Together these three cloth diaper covers are my go-to choices when covering a bulky overnight diaper.

I love the roominess of the Capri Coverall the best, then Thirsties sized covers, and then the Rumparooz cover. The RR is not quite as roomy but I like it’s stretchiness & the fact it has elastic both in front and back at the waist & the thickness of the PUL.
Yes! The rumparooz is a great contender too! It doesn’t fit my toddler at 32 pounds as nicely anymore which is why I’ve phased it out of rotation.
I wasn’t a fan of the blueberry capri but LOVE the thirsties over my big fitteds. Their sized ones are even more impressive. Their largest size i can fit comfortably on my 4.5 yo (he doesnt need it I just tried it,) and my 3 yo has snaps to spare.
I only have one size 2 Thirsties Duo, and I dont like the elastics at all! :O I’ve heard this about Thirsties but I haven’t gotten onboard – maybe because I haven’t tried a new one? Or because I haven’t tried the right one?
Oh yes I love the Nuggles Tuck Wrap Go covers.. never have leaking issues! Personally I love the colours and prints they make as well!
