It is challenging to write about the best part of my day because as life ebbs and flows, that frequently changes. Right now, it’s 6:30, I have a cup of hot coffee, the kids are eating bowls of rice Krispies and everything feels calm, relaxed and perfect. But, this moment could change in an instant.
As a mother, I feel obliged to say the best part of my day are the moments that revolve around my children, but for the past three years, I have struggled with finding space in my life to let them in as my favourite thing to do, and to appreciate their worth. Honestly, the rhetoric around children being a blessing begins to feel old and exhausting as the days evolve. It puts unfair expectations on mothers to love everything about motherhood.
If it works for you and embodies your feelings, then cool but that’s not everyone’s story. We all experience motherhood differently.
The best part of my day are the moments where I get to be creative and create in peace. My creativity is not artistic, it’s this, writing and finding ways to share information and knowledge with the world. I do this day in and day out and I love it. In discovering video and YouTube, I have found another medium which I love to explore and play with. The moments that I get to record and edit are the best parts of my day. If I’m recording a podcast with another mom and getting to learn about her business, blog, or life, that’s also the best part of my day.
These parts don’t happen every day, but when they do they change my world.
I love my children and they bring so much to my life, but they aren’t the best part of my day, not yet at least. Right now we are still in the phase of being exhausted day in and day out. With two toddlers, they are constantly fighting, squabbling and screaming. It’s not fun. It’s the just a life drain on everything I thought I know.
I am looking forward to 2019 and creating more best part of my day moments because the funk, the depression of the past years has really kept me from feeling and being present in those moments.
In January of 2019, I’m following along some writing prompts to get back to writing for me and my personal passions.
