We have some BIG tiny dreams right now.
I’m not sure how it came to be but somehow we got onto this tiny home thing.
It’s partly because we currently HATE our house. It’s not functional with kids, and we have a ton of wasted space. We’ve been looking at moving for some time. Over the summer, we toured some townhouses, and we’ve stopped in to look at houses around 1,000 square feet.
BUT, they all suck.
Townhouses are EXPENSIVE. Townhouses also have strata laws that only allow for ONE dog, but TWO cats. We have two tiny dogs. I know cats bigger than our dogs.
Appartments would be nice but there isn’t much apartment stock in my city.
The small houses we looked at were poorly designed and/or falling apart.
Further, the housing market feels a little crazy and we are feeling a little taken back that we would need to SPEND MORE to buy a smaller space.
So, without the help of cable TV (we cancelled that earlier this year), my husband brought up Tiny Houses. I pretty much thought he was crazy, but then it kind of came around. Tiny Houses embody many of the things I want in life and with my degree in Environmental Studies, I can see many opportunities to help my family reduce our environmental impact.
Turns out there is a tiny home builder in Prince George. He just built his first one, and we’ve now connected and worked on designing our very own 28-30 foot tiny home to live in.
Serious.
For super serious.
We’ve gone to the bank. Cleared up all that. And I’m on a massive purge.
The biggest struggle is what is a cloth diaper blogger going to do in a tiny home?
I’ll keep cloth diapering.
I’m also keeping one of each for science, and I’ll have my every day tiny home cloth diaper stash for the kid(s).
What do you think? Are we crazy?
I bought a domain. And started an Instagram. #forserious
If I could I’d pack my bags and travel the world but you can’t get a loan for that, and I have two very young kids in tow.
You know I have read about places here in States who have some tiny house. Matter of fact I have seen it shared on facebook one time, and I was amazed how beautiful the inside. Thanks for sharing this post.
That’s amazing! I’ve seen the show Tiny Homes on HGTV and have always been intrigued with those that maintain their day to day in them. It really makes you realize you don’t need all the extra sometimes. Best of luck to you all in your journey.
Wow !! Good for you and good luck ! I can’t wait to follow along on your adventure. If we could live in tiny house , we would too. The housing market is so crazy here in Denver. We are going to be paying DOUBLE of what we thought we would for a small first home.
I think you guys are brave for going tiny with a child and two dogs! We were going to go that route but eventually decided against it. We have 3 kids and my hubby likes his space. I love our home though. It is pretty modest on 2 acres out in the country. It’s my dream home 🙂
Wow a tiny house!! What a fun adventure to start on. 🙂 I hope you blog about it!!
