Blueberry Simplex Review

The Blueberry Simplex is a natural fibre all in one diaper made by Blueberry Diapers. It’s available in a few different variations including one size, side snap and newborn. This is a review of the one size Blueberry Simplex all in one diaper.

I was a huge fan of the Blueberry simplex. It was my all time favourite all in one diapers for the longest times. It was the first diaper I stashed, but also the first diaper I stopped buying. I feel like I have mixed feelings about this brand, but will set those aside for the purpose of this review.

Five years later, it’s a little nuts that I never reviewed this diaper, because at one point it was 80% of my stash. I think I felt a little burnt out by the Blueberry community and consumerism, collect it all mentality. These days, I focus on different topics and find my stash  growing with the brands that encourage the communities I want to be a part.

Disclosure: this is the only Simplex left in my stash after potty training. I purchased all of my Simplexes myself, and do include affiliate links in this post.

About the Blueberry Simplex

The Blueberry Simplex is a one size all in one diaper. This means everything is sewn in and it’s ready to use. There’s no matching pieces of the diaper, it’s just one simple package.

The Blueberry AIO diaper is a larger one size diaper rated for 10-35lbs. I did use it on smaller babies around 10lbs, but definitely the Blueberry newborn Simplex is more ideal for newborns. The Blueberry newborn is one of the best newborn all in one diaper son the market, and you most definitely need to scoop those up if you ever see them second hand.

It consists of an exterior PUL layer and then 10 layers of organic cotton Birdseye – this is the same as the Organic Capri Insert – , and a stay dry microfibre layer on the tongue of the diaper. Yes, organic birds eye cotton stains incredibly easy. That is okay. Stains on your cloth diapers is not a bad thing.

This diaper features a cotton pocket with a back open and then tongue attached at the front of the diaper that you stuff in through the front of the diaper. This is easier shown in pictures. The tongue can then be customized to fit your needs, including folded for smaller babies or tucked into the diaper.

One side of the tongue is microfibre and can create a stay dry experience if needed. This is a perfect mix for finding what works for your baby. The absorbency at the front is a great mix for front wetters and tummy sleepers.

My Simplex Review

I loved that this was a natural fibre all in one diaper, and when the tongue was stuffed into the pocket of the diaper, it was super easy to clean up any poop messes. For my kids, natural fibre direct against the skin was the best choice for their skin health and cloth diaper comfort.

Despite having a body of sewn in absorbency, the Blueberry Simplex really adjusts well as baby grows. Many diapers with sewn in absorbency or thick tongues – like the Nickis AIO or the Elf AIO diaper – can be bulky and not give a nice fit or function on smaller babies. Because the organic birds eye cotton is so soft and malleable, this diaper fits babies from 10-35lbs nicely.

The Blueberry Simplex does have rolled elastics. That means there’s an extra finicky step at the beginning of each day. You’re going to want to make sure none of the cotton sticks out around the legs. If it does, it will wick and leak. Be sure to tug the material into the centre of the diaper, or push it in if it’s caught out.

I did not like the step of stuffing the tongue every day, and it’s one of the reasons I packed up my AIO diapers. I quickly felt that these diapers were beginning to create more time than save me time.

I absolutely love the absorbency of the Blueberry Simplex. The absorbency of the Simplex is easily one of the most absorbent all in one diapers on the market. I would not consider this an overnight all in one diaper, but I would never use any all in one overnight because my children were heavy wetters needing over 15 ounces of absorbency, and we relied on fitted diapers like the Nuggles BambooLuxe or the Sloomb BFF tonal diapers.

Do I recommend the Blueberry Simplex

Yes, if it is in your price range, this is an all in one diaper that does not disappoint. It has an incredible fit and function, and rarely lets anyone down.

The Blueberry Pocket Diaper is a very similar fit and function at a lower cost.

Compared to a Blueberry Pocket, essentially the same shaped product with a different internal design

Natural fibre all in one diapers will always be much more expensive than their synthetic counterparts. But when you buy natural fibre diapers you get a much trimer and functional product. You also get a product that is much more durable and long lasting. Yes, wear and tear happens, but natural fibres don’t break down like synthetics. Natural fibres don’t leak like synthetics. Natural fibres fit to the body, and clean in the wash much easier. Curious about my wash routine?

Blueberry Simplex – blueberry pocket with microfibre – Rumparooz – Imagine Baby Pocket

Yes, you’ll see the seam on my Blueberry Simplex is broken because I aggressively tugged it one day. Thi sis the only Simplex that ever broke and it was 150% user error on my end.

I without a doubt enjoy this diaper. It is very similar to the Smart Bottoms All In One system, and many families have a mix of diapers in their stash.

You can find the Blueberry Simplex at many retailers, including the following: It was not available on Amazon Canada, but I would pick it up from Lagoon or Cloth Diaper Kids.

  • LagoonBaby (Canada)
  • Cloth Diaper Kids (Canada)
  • Nicki’s Diapers (USA)
  • My Sweet Pickles (USA)
  • Amazon (USA)
