Last year, we tried a Canadian book subscription box through LillyPost, and we absolutely love it. I love it so much I signed up for a few more months and then committed to a six month subscription.
We’ve collected quite a few books through Lillypost, plus a few more from friends, online shopping and other recommendations. These are my kids favourite books. These are the books that my 3 year old and 5 year old grab every night and have memorized. These are the books my kids love to read, re-read, and bring to bed.

Story Books my 4 Year Old Loves
These books are in no particular order, just off my recollection.
It’s a Mitig by Bridget George
This book I learnt about on TikTok. Somehow the authors page came across my FYP, and then I ordered the book. It’s a fun way to learn an Indigenous language and my kids love watching me stumble all over my words and try to pronounce and learn together.
Just One More! by Tracey Corderoy
This is the story of just one more book. Little bunny writes a book with the help fo all his friends and then falls asleep.
The Little White Owl by Tracey Corderoy
Another fun story of storytelling, this book features a white owl who travels and finds some colourful owls. He tells them stories and they come and visit.
How to Catch a Leprechaun by Sue Fliess
This Saint Patricks Day Book is a fun and colourful read that my kids enjoy all year round. They always want to build traps and try to find a leprechaun.
Fergal and the Bad Temper by Robert Starling
This is my kids favourite book, but also my favourite book because it reminds us how to keep cool. Emotions are big in my house, and with this book we actively can reflect on how to stay relaxed and calm when we have a bad temper.
Bertie Wings It by Leslie Gorin
This is the cutest story that everyone will love and feel reminded that we know what we are doing and don’t need to always follow the dots and t’s to get there.
The Dark, Dark Night by Jane Chapman
Find this book on Indigo|Chapters, but it follows a crew of wild characters as they discover the power of a shadow!
Kick! Jump! Chop! by Heather Ayris Burnell
Since my oldest is obsessed with Ninjago (LEGO) it’s no surprise that this is a must-read overnight in the house. This Ninja gingerbread story is one of cunning defeat.
I am Amelia Earhart by Brad Meltzer
I’ve seen this series at Costco, but we got this from a family friend and my son loves this story. I love this story. They are written in such an easy-to-read way and feature fantastic storylines.
Bears Scare by Jacob Grant
My kids love this but I love it because it’s easy and quick to read. Sometimes when you just don’t want a big story, this is the great choice. This simple to read story follows a bear who meets a spider who fixes his bear and him and the spider learn to live together
Recommendations from Kids
These are the books that I almost have memorized because I gotta read them every night for my kids. If you have an additional recommendation, let me know below.
I definitely recommend a Lillypost Box Subscription. It’s such a fun way for my family to build our library and learn which books my kids will love. We didn’t have a lot of books before this and now we have so many and I have a better feel for the types of books my kids will enjoy. I can’t wait to pick up more books in the years to come.
