Cloth 101: Where to Buy Cloth Diapers

Alright – we’ve gone over quite a few cloth diaper basics from what a diaper is, why cloth diapers, to how to use a diaper, and when to start cloth diapering. Today we’re chatting about where to buy cloth diapers.

  • Cloth 101: Goodbye Rubber Pants, Hello Modern Diapers
  • Cloth 101: Why Cloth Diapers

Because I work directly with so many amazing cloths diaper brands and retailers than when I’m prompted with the question where do I buy cloth diapers, I begin to immediately feel overwhelmed and unsure where to start the conversation.

Here’s a few of my favourite retailers and affiliates: Cloth Diaper Podcast

Cloth diapers are available almost everywhere, and increasingly becoming available through your favourite online and in person shopping platforms. I generally like to encourage to google “cloth diapers near me” first or ask around on a local parenting page because you might be surprised and which businesses are local to you – you might find them at a local maternity store, you might find them at Target, you might find that a brand is based out of your region.

If there’s nothing local, then we can start looking at our broader national and international options.

Where to buy Cloth Diapers

Generally, you can find cloth diapers at these places: direct from the brand, through a retailer, through a second-hand platform like Facebook, and through larger online marketplaces like Amazon, Etsy, & AliExpress.

Shop Direct with a Cloth Diaper Brand

Shopping directly with a brand is as simple as going to the brands website to order products. This is the dominant purchasing choice in the United States, with most brands offering direct shipping from their location to you. You might find a list of retailers on their website to find a close-to you shopping choice.

Shop Direct with a Retailer for Cloth Diapers

Direct from a Retailer is a broader category that I’ll lump into two choices: boutiques and cloth diaper retailers.

Boutiques include your favourite baby boutique or maternity clothing store that also stocks cloth diapers through wholesale opportunities. More and more we are discovering cloth diapers at Target, online with Costco, Barnes & Noble, Chapters & Indigo, and larger box stores. This is an amazing opportunity for cloth diaper brands as they get approached to do wholesale and start to normalize this mainstream notion of cloth diapering.

Cloth diaper retailers are speciality boutiques that carry almost exclusively cloth diapers – there are a few big names out there including:

  • Lagoon Baby, Cloth Diaper Kids, and Calgary Cloth Diaper in Canada
  • and in the United States: Diaper Depot, Lil Tulips, Green Mountain Diapers, Jemma + Way and Nicki’s Diapers.

There are many more cloth diaper retailers than I mentioned, and you can check lists created by other content creators on the web (seriously, there are so many of us making lists, and I’m terrible at keeping my lists up to date)

Shopping for Cloth Diapers Second Hand

hopping for diapers second hand is really going to vary on your local community preferences. In my region, Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist are dominant, but in other places you’ll find Poshmark, Kijiji or Facebook groups as the go-to to buy second hand diapers.

Generally, I want to buy a used diaper for half the price of retailer, and I wont pay more. But, the marketplace is saturated with second hand diapers, and you’ll find a reasonable price. Also, I straight up wont pay for diapers with shot elastics and sometimes we have to own the fact that a diaper isn’t worth reselling. But that’s a rant for another day.

Shopping for Cloth Diapers with Large Online Platforms

You can find cloth diapers on other large marketplace platforms like Amazon, AliExpress and Etsy. The selection is different and influenced by the marketplace experience. Not all of these marketplaces are easy for brands to work with, and Amazon cloth diapering options are limited, but you will find some bundles and options (primarily direct from China wholesale options).

There are many places to buy cloth diapers!

There are many places to buy cloth diapers, you just haven’t needed to look for them before. My first ask is that you ask around and see if someone local has a selection, and then take a look for a retailer whether that’s direct from the brand or one of the larger cloth diaper retailers on the market. There are so many amazing benefits to shopping with a cloth diaper retailer, but I mostly love to recommend them because of selection – you can pick up 2-3 different brands and really get a grasp of the options available for your family.

It doesn’t matter where you buy your cloth diapers, just that you use your cloth diapers.

Buy the package that’s easy for you, use the diapers someone gave you, and just embrace the diapers you have. The perfect cloth diaper doesn’t exist, so stop looking ofr it, and just do it.

This is probably the last time I tandem nursed. I don’t remember when or how the nursing relationship ended, it just fleeted away slowly and I kind of get the sad thinking about it right now. For most of my 4 years of breastfeeding, I wore the same nursing sleep bra until it pretty much […]
