Current Tyed Swimwear Review: Stylish, Sun-Safe, and Kid-Approved

As a parent, finding the perfect swimwear for your children that strikes a balance between style, comfort, and sun protection can sometimes be a challenge. It’s been easy for my son – we purchased Villervalla swim trunks for him like 4 years ago from Modern Rascals, and never looked back.

But girl swimsuits are a different beast and trying to find the right one that she’ll love and I’ll love, and that holds up has been a challenge. That’s why I want to share my experience with Current Tyed swimwear, a Canadian kids clothing brand I discovered for my shop – Nest & Sprout in Prince George, Canada.

Quality That Stands Out

I’ve started out the past two summers believing we didn’t need to buy a swim suit – see the previous note about my son. However, my child has been growing and one-piece swimsuits fit differently than swim trunks. You need to regularly change sizes (I’m thinking of going to a two piece net time.) Last year, decided to try out one of their swimsuits. Little did I know, it would become her absolute favorite.

One thing that struck me was the quality of the fabric. It wasn’t until a friend pointed it out that I realized how superior it felt compared to some of the last-minute impulse buys we’ve made at other stores. My daughter particularly loves the full-arm design, which means less sunscreen is needed, and as a parent, I wholeheartedly agree with this added sun protection.

The “Ava” Ruffle Rashguard Suit

We opted for the “Ava” Ruffle Rashguard Suit from Current Tyed, and it has exceeded our expectations. The “Ava” print features hand-drawn strawberries on a rich matte pink base – perfect for the pink-loving kids in your family. The suit is not only stylish but also provides Chemical-Free UPF 50+ protection, ensuring your child stays safe from the sun’s harmful rays.

One unique feature of Current Tyed’s design is the keyhole neck, which easily unties to create a wide opening for easy putting on and removal, even when wet. This thoughtful design also empowers little hands to tie and untie themselves, making bathroom breaks a breeze.

The suit is fully lined for modesty with an ultra-soft liner, while the arms are left unlined to ensure full mobility. Made from breathable Lycra fabric with 4-way stretch, it offers all-day comfort and play. To add a touch of sweetness and additional sun protection, Current Tyed has included a subtle hip ruffle detail.

Supporting a Small Canadian Business

Current Tyed is a Canadian brand based outside of Vancouver, run by a family of four – Kate, Scott, Tye, and Shae. Their journey began in 2019 when they designed a custom suit for their son Tye’s eczema. Committed to high quality and ethical manufacturing, they set out to create a line of Chemical-Free products for the entire family.

Each design and print is lovingly created in Canada and ethically manufactured by their dedicated partners. Current Tyed is a brand built on a simple idea, and it has grown into a full-solution business providing sun protection for families like ours.

It’s easy to find Current Tyed at your favourite children’s boutiques across Canada. I know of many off the top of my mind that carry them. If you’re local to me in Prince George, definitely check out our collection at Nest & Sprout- and if not find a shop near you, or shop directly with Current Tyed.

In the world of gardening, there are those who love every moment spent with their plants, and then there are those who do it out of necessity. This year, my goal was simple: grow enough green beans to keep our pantry stocked for the winter. In the past, I’d resorted to buying and canning 20-40 […]

Our Favorite Girls Snow Boots: Rainbow Unicorn Brumby

We’ve already purchased our snow boots for this winter, partly because I now own a children’s boutique in Prince George, and partly because my child grew over the summer. We went from a size 12 to as size 2 – which means we are now in the land of ‘youth snow boots’ or bigger kids […]
