Maybe I’ve gotten out my echo chamber, or maybe the international cloth diaper community is THRIVING in ways that we just can’t imagine, but the diapers coming out of Australia and New Zealand have just got me in a land of whimsy and dreaming. Thank goodness for Instagram for showing me all the amazingness that is the cloth nappy community.

I ordered this diaper from Jemma + Way, an online cloth diaper boutique out of the United States. Owned by Lauren, this shop has all the ‘it diapers’ that you need in your stash. If you’re looking to find new and unique brands that you don’t find at the big-retailers, this is spot to be. I love that she is bringing all sorts of quality products from around the world, so that we can experience the best cloth diapering has to offer.
Now I did order this diaper myself, we had a shipping hiccup (that can only be blamed on Canada Post), but alas this review is of my own free will. I would absolutely love that you check out Jemma + Way because its awesome shop that our industry desperately needs.
If you are Canadian, you can also find EcoNaps Cloth Nappies at LittleGumNut Co. Little GumNut Co is a Northern BC boutique with an amazing selection of products for families around the world.
About EcoNaps
I often know a thing or two about a cloth diaper brand but I don’t know much about EcoNaps besides that people love their products. This is a brand that I hear amazing things about all the time, and apparently is designed Byron Bay, Australia by found Kyla. This is a nappy brand with strong ties to sustainability, community, quality and beauty.
Eco Naps sells one main style of cloth nappy, along with a swim diaper, and accessories.
The EcoNaps Modern Cloth Nappy
This is your classic versatile pocket cloth diaper, otherwise known in North America as an all in two diaper, or might be known as a snap in one diaper. This means it features snap-in inserts with a pocket opening.
Yes.

Key Features of the EcoNaps Cloth Diaper
This diaper has a lot of features! It’s not just your average pocket diaper, but it’s designed to be simple-to-use, leak-free, functional, and adaptable. Each of these features helps you have the best experience possible and this diaper is definitely durable and built to last.
- one size fits most diaper for babies 3.5-16 kg (or about 8-35lbs)
- 2×4 rise setting with a narrow crotch
- Double waist snap with cross over snap
- Low hip snap (versus the top hip snap in the Earth & Pebble last week)
- 2 contoured bamboo blend inserts: 1 standard insert that can be folded to size, and 1 small snap in insert.
- Stay-dry suede liner built into the shell of the diaper
- Front & back pocket opening
- Snaps in the front and the back to snap in inserts.
- Belly Panel for tat moisture wicking.

My EcoNaps Review
I love that it’s sold with natural fibre inserts, but the inserts are dense and thick. They remind me of the Funky Fluff inserts circa 2017, but I didn’t like the dense bamboo inserts then and I still don’t… they can be stiff and bulky and not the best absorbers.
I need to toss mine in the wash (I’ve been waiting to do a giveaway and have the winner choose which one they want before washing, but images online show these inserts getting waffle and bacon like with washing – this is super common with some brands of bamboo Terry, and can be a really frustrating experience causing just bulkier fit.
Leaving that critique alone, I love it when a brand sells a versatile insert set with their diaper because it really sets you up for early cloth diapering success. So many cloth diaper brands sell us just one size of insert hoping that we will make it work from infant to toddler — but the truth is that doesn’t always work. Small babies need smaller inserts and the fold in the long insert, and the slightly smaller insert allows for that change in sizing that is so often needed in cloth diaper absorbency.
This is a narrow cloth diaper – I can barely fit my hand into this diaper. Narrow crotches are advantageous for their trim fit, but lack the girth needed for additional absorbency. I wouldn’t add anything more to this diaper than the two inserts provided, and you really shouldn’t need anything more than the two bamboo inserts for day & nap use.

The Low Hip Snap will be your thing or not. I like a low hip snap because I think it reduces droop the most, but many families with chubby thigh babies find that it can be a recipe for pinching thighs. If this happens, you dont’ have to use it. Your diaper should not be so tight it causes red marks and or hurts your child. Let it be loose and don’t use it if you dont’ need to use it.

And this is a smaller fitting diaper. I have noticed that North American diapers are shifting towards a bigger cut than our earlier diapers and diapers coming out of Australia/New Zealand. As you can in this pile, the top two diapers, which are Eco Naps & Fluffy Penguin, are a smaller fit and design.
This diaper can still fit your child to 35lbs, it just will be a more of a bikini bottom fit. I think that North American’s tend to prefer a more generous cut not because our babies are bigger, but because we want to know we can get as much life out of our diapers as possible. But that might just be a hypothetical. I’ve really noticed that we have abandoned the smaller cut of the early 2000’s for a more generous 10-40lb cut, so if you don’t like trimmer fits, don’t buy this diaper.

This is a good size comparison to some Australian Cloth Diapers – the Fluffy Ducks & Eco Naps are smaller shaped and size.

My Recommendation
This diaper is listed at $29.95 USD on Jemma & Way – for an imported international brand with double inserts and more features than you know what to do with, this diaper is a good buy. We don’t often see double the natural fibre insert come in for under $30 – and these aren’t just your regular bamboo Terry they are a dense bamboo Terry.
I think this diaper is best for people who really love the aesthetic of the brand and have a more petite child. That’s seriously, all I have to say on this because I haven’t tried it. If you loved Funky Fluff or Lalabye Baby, you might love this diaper.

Aussie here!
I got some EcoNaps second hand with their older style inserts. I send them to daycare, because I don’t really like them. They aren’t my style, I’ve come to find out I prefer pockets with a larger fit. These can be used as pocket but like you. my big hands aren’t comfortable going through and I dont let like the extra fabric under the tummy panel.
