Earlier this month I updated my home office with a wallpaper mural. I have been dreaming of wallpapering a room in the house for years, but the cost has terrified me. Wallpaper is not cheap and the cheap wallpaper is still not cheap.

When I shuffled my desk and rearranged my layout in the office I discovered it would the be the perfect opportunity to wallpaper the small interior wall in the room. It would be a small project with a lower cost threshold. I could try out a wallpaper brand see if it was as easy as they say, and then do the project. This would let me know if I wanted to do a more full scale wallpaper mural in the upstairs living room (still a dream).
Where to Buy Wallpaper in Canada
There are many different places to buy wallpaper in Canada, including your local paint shops. The local paint shop has books of dreamy paper prints, but this was an impulse middle-of-the-night project that I ordered online and didn’t want to talk to anyone. #introvertproblems.
I compared wallpaper that were available on Amazon, Etsy, and Wayfair. I opted to go with the options on Etsy because it was the print I loved – simple as that. Plus, I read some of the Wayfair reviews and it was to hit or miss on getting patterns that lined up and not being damaged. I didn’t feel comfortable with that risk.
These are online wallpaper retailers in Canada that I compared when looking for a product for my home office.

EspaceMural Wallpaper Review
I ordered the Mural Sticker 1305 from EspaceMural on Etsy. It is a vinyl wallpaper that is peel and stick and provides and option for removal. Vinyl wallpaper is an easy trend in wallpapering that provides a great choice for families looking to quickly update a room without the steps of glue.
I looked at traditional wallpaper application and its as overwhelming, almost made me want to consider painting the wall myself.
This was the cheapest mural with a design I liked. After a little research, I discovered that some of the I’ve included a picture from the original Etsy listing, and then how it looks in my office. I feel like the print is much larger IRL than it feels in the pictures.
How easy is it to install vinyl wallpaper?
The first piece was so incredibly easy, but the second piece was a nightmare. I’m not sure if its because it’s the second piece or because of the cut out in the wall, or because I was tired and cranky at this point of the project.
The first piece was up super quick, but by the end it took me two hours to install the wallpaper in the office. My biggest struggle was stretching the vinyl and then getting wrinkles and bubbles that I couldn’t get out.
You have to be really careful unrolling the wallpaper and holding the weight of the roll while you squeeze and apply so that it doesn’t cause any unnecessary stretching.
I find that the seam was really easy to match but it’s noticeable when you look, the wrinkles are also noticeable and look sloppy, but nobody can tell on a Zoom call that my background is 80%. It just looks fantastic. And now you know my secret – I updated my wall for a wicked cool Zoom background.
Overall Thoughts
Honestly, a touch disappointed in the overall quality of the print. I think that’s partly it being low cost. I was expecting the quality to be a bit better, but I’m also not quick to judge because I don’t feel like I was taken advantage of.
I don’t know if I would buy from this company on Etsy again, but I would try wallpaper again. If I do wallpaper the living room, I’ll save up the money to hire an installer. Wallpaper easily costs 50-200 dollars per rolls you really gotta be invested on having it look and feel awesome. Maybe I just need more practice with small rooms?
