Earlier this weekend, I wrote a glowing review of my new favourite newborn cloth diaper – the Funky Fluff newborn. And its true, I really do love everything about the Funky Fluff newborn cloth diaper; should we decide to ever have more children, there is an 75% chance I would purchase half a stash worth of them from CozyBums.
However, I bet your wondering why you’d buy a Funky Fluff newborn when the one-size Funky Fluff fits a newborn. And you are right, a Funky Fluff one-size cloth diaper does fit a newborn!
Funky Fluff offers 4 sets of rise snaps, a narrow crotch, a small sized insert, and cross over snaps. These features allow the Funky Fluff One Size cloth diaper to fit nice and itty bitty. Fitting even the most fresh-faced of 8lb newborns (much like my Little Miss).
While I did have my Funky Fluff One Size cloth diapers stuffed and snapped ready to use on Little Miss…
THREE reasons I RARELY used my Funky Fluff one size on my newborn.
1. Wide Crotch – Funky Fluff is known for a narrow crotch, but compared to the ease and comfort of a smaller newborn sized diaper, I just rather not.
2. Awkward Snap Across Fit – There’s something awkward about the sizing on a snap across wings. For us, I always found the fit too big snapped into the belly band, but slightly too small when snapped across. It just never felt like a good fit, and I had an average sized baby. Small babies would really benefit from the sized newborn.
3. Bulky & Clumsy – in our early weeks, the diaper always felt bulky and clumsy on Little Miss compared to my all in one stash. I usually felt the legs were never tight enough, and the crotch always too baggy.
[[Most families would have a reason FOUR – Umbilical Stump Care – it’s relatively unusual for a little to loose their stump by the end of day 3, but my little girl did. If you hold and linger on to umbilical stumps, many newborns will find the rise on the one-size Funky Fluff too high to allow for proper care, making the newborn the perfect option]]
Funky Fluff Newborn Versus One Size?
I’ve been thinking about this all weekend. And I wanted to give you my honest to good opinion on the matter at hand.
I rotated in our One Size Funky Fluff diapers into Little Misses stash because she’s beginning to outgrow most of our other Newborn AIO diapers and needs more diapers on her shelf. I really do love the fit of the One Size Funky Fluff on a newborn, and I also really love the fit on the Funky Fluff newborn on a newborn.
Both are amazing options for your newborn, and both are amazing investments. But… I also grab the newborn before I grab the one size.
just two reasons I always use my Funky Fluff newborn
- Trim Amazing Fit
- Two Separate Stashes for two different babies.
Whats your take on this debate? Would you go newborn? Or would you go one-size?
You really can’t go wrong either way. Funky Fluff is an amazing product.

If I ever have another baby I’m going to try the FF newborn diapers. We love our FF OS covers.

Could you possibly do a review on funky fluff vs nuggles all In 2 systems? I’m wondering if the inserts are interchangeable and how they differ from either in real world setting. Also which one would you prefer and why.

Hey Ashley,
I’ll have to see if I still have a Nuggles AI2. I might have gotten rid of them after my washing machine ate up some of my diapers
They are two very different diapers. The inserts are interchangeable, but the Funky fluff Inserts are far superior in quality and absorbency. Additionally, the Funky Fluff would offer a much trimmer fit similiar to lalaybe; whereas Nuggles is a much larger fit comparable maybe to Blueberry.
