Hike it Baby 30 – April 2017 Challenge

It’s been almost a year, since we last took part in a Hike it Baby 30 Challenge, and I’m excited to join the fun again.

Perhaps its the gorgeous sunshine coming thru the window this morning, or the longer days, but I’m totally pumped, ready, and thrilled to get back outside. The long winter days paired with a miserable pregnancy, have made me feel a little shut in. We spent most of the last 6 months walking the mall, or leisurely shopping trips at Costco. So now that Little Miss is here, we are ready to hit the world and check out the great outdoors.

Hike it Baby 30

Hike it Baby 30 is a 30 day challenge with Hike it Baby. The challenge is to hike/walk/move 30 miles in 30 days, and if y
ou aren’t up for that challenge you can challenge yourself to get outside 3 times a week for 30 minutes.

Our Goal

We will be challenging ourselves to get outside 30 minutes 3 times a week.

Hiking with a toddler is like taking two steps back with every step forward. That makes hitting 30 miles feel like an overwhelmingly daunting task. And after this mornings hike with Hike it Baby Prince George… took us an hour to wander 1 kilometre.

Really, I’m looking to build up some new, better habits. After a long winter, and a stale pregnancy, we find ourselves inside all day. And when I’m inside, there is access to a TV and the internet… it becomes a downward spiral of not the best choices…

This should also be a good goal for this postpartum mama. It’s not too strenuous, and its just perfect for healing and recovering after having a baby. I wasn’t physically active before my babies, so a slow and steady jump into it will be just right for helping heal my mind and body.

Where will you find us?

If you’re local to the Prince George area, we will be walking every Wednesday morning with Hike it Baby Prince George.

And probably be exploring our neighbourhood, Little Man loves to walk the dogs around the block. The dogs are not so sure about this experience.

And… maybe something new and different. I’d like to explore the following this year (again).

  • Dougherty Creek All Access – seriously awesome little trail for toddler exploring.
  • Ferguson Lake
  • Goodsir Nature Park
  • Maybe a road trip? I’ll have to see if theres something in Quesnel/Vanderhoof/Mackenzie/McBride worth exploring with a toddler and newborn.

Will you be joining in on the challenge this month? How do you get outside with your family? Favourite trail?

Today, I did something I never imagined doing – I had a settlement conference following a small claims suit I made earlier this year. I filed for financial compensation following negligence of bookkeeping services that I hired out for almost 18 months.  The thing about small claims court is they really want you to nail […]

Prince George, BC | My Rhododendron Died

I’m from BC’s southwest coast, rhododendrons grow everywhere. They are the hedge plant of everything, but in Prince George, BC you will be hard pressed to find a rhododendron because they are just not zone 3 plants.  When we purchased our current home we were surprised to discover a rhododendron – but there was much […]
