Sometimes I joke about moving into the woods, off the grid… and it’s not because I’m skeptic of social media but because one day I think I’ll want to start over.
My name lives on for some people… when I took over Nest & Sprout, I lost more followers than gained. The account was then immediately blocked by several accounts in town. I know because I see the broken tags that go nowhere.
I am loved.
I know I cannot be everyone’s something.
But, maybe like you, I was raised to be likeable. That was the goal – to be liked by everyone… and now in 2022, we’re learning it’s more important to like yourself than have others like you.
But rewriting those narratives in your story when your life lives in a digital realm and a physical realm is fascinating, and challenging.
The goal should have been one of compassion and patience, of gentleness with yourself, and trust.
How do I raise little people in this dual world? In a place where someone can make up their mind about you on the internet and never reevaluate who you are?
And how do I come to find peace in Prince George, to feel like a member of this community and not some outsider living on the edge who married a man here.
