When I interviewed Mohammad for the Cloth Diaper Podcast a few years ago, I ordered the Lil Helper diaper to try. I never did write a review for the product, so today’s blog post is a comparison because so much has changed from that diaper a few years ago, to the product today.
Lil Helper did send me this diaper for free with no strings attached. I’m excited to share with you some of the great improvements in their product and why it’s beginning to warm up on me. I am a Lil Helper affiliate.
Because if you asked me a few years ago, I was eh about Lil Helper. I loved the brand, and I love everything that Mohammad does, it just wasn’t a great product for me and my kids.
About Lil Helper
About the Lil Helper Cloth Diaper
Lil Helper only sells one diaper – and this is it. It’s a snap-in cloth diaper or all in two style diaper. This means the diaper has some sort of versatility to it. When the inserts are snapped into the diaper, it’s almost like the diaper is an all in one diapering thus giving it a sense of versatility that it can be more than one style of diaper – cover and all in one.
It features a reusable exterior shell with snap-in inserts.
This diaper can have it’s inserts swapped out with each diaper change until the exterior shell is soiled. This reduces the cost of a diapering system, and helps you stay on a tighter budget. It’s also excellent way to shrink washing.
The key features of the Lil Helper Cloth Diaper
- One-size diaper with a 3×3 rise setting
- Exterior PUL and interior is microfleece
- Sold with two polyester inserts, the large one is lined with PUL to reduce wicking to the shell of the diaper and extend diaper life.
- PUL tummy panel at the front of the diaper.
- Triple waist snap – with low hip snap
The Lil Helper Cloth Diaper is sold by itself or in an amazing Starter Kit to give you a kick start to a days worth of diapering. You can also purchase additional inserts or boosters to amplify your diapering experience for your child’s absorbency.
The Lil Helper diaper does not need prepping. It can be used right away.
Lil Helper Cloth Diaper Review
I love the small changes made to this diaper from the previous one – the tummy panel, the PUL lined inserts, and the silicone labels. These are little things that just make the diapering experience that much better by reducing leaks and ensuring you can continue to use this diaper again and again.
This is a smaller sized diaper, but don’t let that scare you into thinking it wont last. I’ve seen it on some giant toddlers. Those last snaps, they are meant to be used. Don’t panic!
The double inserts are awesome because it really gives you the absorbency you need, but you’ll find the large insert is too big or bulky for the smallest of babies. I would consider using the small insert alone during the first few months, until baby is bigger, and the additional inserts are needed.
Many brands have shifted to the charcoal colouring or coloured liners in their diapers, just like Lil Helper, and it’s phenomenal as it reduces the stress of stains. Stains will happen, but there’s something about the coloured material that makes it scream “not as big of a deal.”

If your child has a wetness sensitivity, the microfleece lining on Lil Helper charcoal bamboo inserts is perfect choice for keeping baby happy and content throughout the diapering days.
I continue to be disappointed on the reliance on synthetic materials just because I really think the future is natural fibers and microplastic pollution is so yesterday. You can add bamboo inserts to your set up.
Microfibre is advantageous because of its quick absorb, light weight feel, and overall functionality within a diaper. It can be prone to compression leaks, but the PUL set up in the Lil Helper diaper, along with the great customer support, mean you should be set and not need to worry.
My recommendation
I don’t have a kid in diapers, but I am very pleased with the small changes made in the Lil Helper diapers. So many of my followers love this diaper and everything it has to offer.
The best thing about Lil Helpers is that it’s perfect for anxious beginners or anyone a little nervous about cloth. The Lil Helper system is all you need in your life. You could buy a full stash today, never look another cloth diaper retailer or website again, and just have a great easy time.
