Cloth diapering a newborn is a bit of a headache truth be told. The biggest challenge is most newborn all in one cloth diapers are not nearly absorbent enough for tiny children on an exclusively liquid diet. Finding the absorbency is tough, but one way you can do is with fitted cloth diapers. You will need to use a cover with these but you can choose a variety of options from newborn cloth diaper covers, wool covers, or even one size cloth diaper covers.
I repurchased the AMP Hemp Fitted diaper for the purpose of this review because I sold mine quickly with my first child. I think its funny sometimes we come back around to diapers we thought we didn’t like. I used it a couple of times and quickly hated it and tried to resell it with very little luck – but finally did. I didn’t like it because it didn’t fit Little Man. And fair enough, he was 15 pounds by 6 weeks. Likely, my dislike, was all fit related, because we’ve used this little newborn fitted diaper with Little Miss since she was born, and its kind of awesome. AMP Diapers makes a great fitted diaper and let me tell you why you should try it below.

AMP Fitted Diaper Design
The AMP Hemp Fitted Diaper comes in TWO sizes. The size small is 8-16 pounds, and the large fits 15-35 pounds. I have a size small for my tiny newborn.[Try to find at Lagoon Baby – CAN] I have not tried the larger size.
This little diaper is a hemp fleece (55% hemp and 45% cotton). It is a fitted shell composed of 2 layers of hemp fleece, with a third layer in the wetzone. The AMP Fitted cloth diaper also comes with a 3 layer fleece booster/doubler for a total of 6 layers in the wet zone.
This sized diaper offers a single layer waist snap with a cross over. It does not have any rise settings, nor additional snaps.
Our AMP Hemp Fitted Diaper Experience
The AMP Fitted Diaper is a favourite of my fitted diapers for several reasons. [Try to find atLagoon Baby – CAN]
- Trim Fit: The fit of AMP Hemp Fitted Diaper is relatively trim all over. It features a narrower crotch to fit little newborns just right. This left less bulky than some of my other fitted and prefold diaper options.
- Sizing: The Sizing on the size small version of the AMP Hemp Fitted Diaper is just right. It was big when she was little, but she grew nicely into it. The ideal fit was around 10 pounds, in our experience, and she’s beginning to max out the rise at around 13 pounds.
- Absorbency: Fitted diapers are one of the best solutions to heavy wetting newborns, and the AMP Hemp Fitted Diaper is up for the task. I always used the booster, and always had success. The booster doesn’t add much bulk, but adds just the right absorbency to make it last 4-5-6 hours.
There is one area of improvement with the AMP Hemp Fitted Diaper…
- Booster/Doubler: I wish this booster/doubler could snap into the diaper. It would make laundry day easier. I hate trying to find it and I much prefer a system that stays all together like the Nuggles fitted cloth diaper.
Recommendations
Overall, I just was not a big fan of fitted diapers with newborns. <- Truth be told, I really should be because it is a great way to cloth diaper a heavy wetter.
I find the process of putting on a fitted diaper and then a cover a little cumbersome compared to the newborn AIO cloth diapers (All in One Style). However, fitted cloth diapers with a snap enclosure, are an easy grab and go system compared to fitted or prefold cloth diapers. They can also just be worn without covers if your bumming around the house and change when it feels wet.
