A preflat is neither a prefold nor a flat cloth diaper. It’s a unique combination of the both that is best shown in pictures. I had the pleasure of chatting with Reina from Noble Bebe Diapers on the Cloth Diaper Podcast this year, and ordered a few of her preflats to check out. Listen to her story on the Cloth Diaper Podcast, and then check out this review to learn more about Preflat cloth diapers.
About Noble Bebe Diapers
And yes, you pronounce that Bebe with an accent. You can learn more about Reina’s business on the podcast, but the short of is she’s a mom living in 3 living in the United States sewing cloth diapers. She runs a small shop out of her home and specializes in a simple, stretchy, preflat diaper.
Noble Bebe ships around the world direct from her website, and even has stockists! You might find her product at your favourite cloth diaper retailer, and if you don’t let them know they need to carry her. She even has information about cloth diapering in spanish. She’s an incredible resource.
The Stretchy Bamboo Winged Preflat
The Stretchy Bamboo Preflat from Noble Diapers is available in three sizes: Newborn, One Size (10-32lbs), and Toddler. These three sizes give you a broad range of sizing to fit almost any baby or child.
The preflat is made of 2 layers of 67% Bamboo Rayon, 28% organic cotton, and 5% spandex, giving it a four way stretch and enough absorbency for daytime use. When folded you get a total of 6 layers of absorbency where baby needs it most.
The winged preflat works by having a front and back section of the diaper. You can see two wings cut out. That is the back of the diaper. These wings wrap around babies body and come to the front. The longer section is folded in thirds, and then passed through baby’s legs. You can use a fastener of your choice – snappi, Boingo, diaper pins, belt, or no fastener) and attach to baby. You will need to add a cloth diaper cover to make this diaper waterproof.
The preflat is everything you want in a flat and prefold diaper. Its custom fit and design gives an easy fit that wraps around baby’s body. This wrap around style helps reduce bulk and give all over coverage. If you don’t want to fold onto baby, you can simply fold in thirds and use in a pocket or cover diaper. Just because the product has wings, doesn’t mean you have to use it this way.
The Do It All Pad
The Do It All Pad is designed to be used throughout baby’s life. It is the same size as the Newborn Winged preflat, and can be used a prefold with newborn babies. It can continue to be used as a booster for one-size and toddler babies.
The Do It All Pad is 2 layers of Stretchy-bamboo French Terry in a perfect 10×12″ pad. It can be folded in half for four layers, or even in thirds for a super trim 6 layer insert. This is a great addition to any stash. A super do it all pad is also available with hemp blend.
I NEED MORE ABSORBENCY
There is a chance that you will need more absorbency with the Noble Bebe Preflats. They are designed to be a comfortable absorbency, and you might find your child is a heavy wetter for nights, or naps, or maybe just during the day. You can customize the absorbency of the Noble Bebe Preflats easily by adding a booster or Do It All Pad
The trick with adding absorbency to the Noble Bebe Diapers is to place the extra absorbency where you need it. Fold any extra inserts, prefolds, or pads and place it where you need it (front, back mid-section). This added absorbency right where baby pees, or the pee goes, helps absorb more efficiently in the long term.
Noble Bebe Recommendation
Yes, you need this. But, I also recognize that it is a higher cost product. It’s a luxury cloth diaper that not everyone can afford. A t-shirt is another fantastic repurposed item that can be used the same with, with the same absorbency.
This is a product that is a luxury to spend on. The simple to use stretchy wings give an incredibly trim and absorbent fit on most children. Available in three sizes, this diaper is something that works for a wide array of sizes, and the quality of the textile and craftmanship is there.
Yes, save up and buy this. You can buy it direct from Noble Bebe Diapers online.
But you also don’t need to have it.
I’ll be giving away a Noble Bebe Preflat bundle on my Cloth Diaper Podcast Instagram the first week of November 2020.
