I am absolutely smitten about the new Nuggles Blush collection. Cherelle, the owner and founder, at Nuggles Designs Canada, created an absolutely breathtaking lineup. Sure, it’s not really the current winter mood, but these diapers are the ones you need to keep spirits high in the dark days of winter. I recently picked up Ferns & Fronds in the Nuggles Tuck-Wrap-Go Cover in a Size 2 and excited to share my thoughts and opinions.
I have owned Nuggles covers for a very long time, so this review comes easily and naturally despite only having a new cover in hand for a couple weeks.
I have written a few Nuggles Diaper reviews in the past but not nearly enough. Nuggles does make an amazing product which I need to get busy telling you all about. Some of the products I have reviewed rather harshly like the Size 1 version of this but after talking with Cherelle, I’m learning she has different goals for her products.
- Nuggles Simple Review, Pocket Diaper, 2016
- Nuggles Bittee Review, AIO Newborn Diaper, 2017 (has been revised)
- Nuggles Swimsee Review, Swim Diapers, 2017
- Nuggles Daytime Inserts in Cotton, Insert Review — I hated these, these are discontinued, I’ve also learnt over the years my first is a heavy wetter and most people don’t need the type of absorbency I needed. Therefore my perceptions of an insert that is good enough for my kid is skewed.
Disclaimer: earlier this month Nuggles hired me on as Director of Happiness. I accepted this job because I believe in Cherelle and the Nuggles brand. It does mean that I wholeheartedly recommend Nuggles products. I would never take a job for the sake of a job.

About Nuggles
Nuggles Design Canada is a Canadian-based cloth diaper company. With headquarters in the Kamloops area, Cherelle is the mastermind behind the diapers designs and prints. She started designing diapers when the current stash she had for her kids just didn’t perform the way she wanted.
Her diapers have undergone changes and tweaks over the years as she works with new factories and suppliers overseas but they always offer the same consistent quality of the product.
Nuggles has expanded since 2012 now offering Canadian milled and manufactured leggings with the brand Rococobum.
Nuggles is available at Canadian and American retailers. You can also buy Nuggles directly and ships to Canada and the USA (keep in mind prices are in CDN).

That’s me and Cherelle. I pronounce her name wrong so you probably do too.

Size 2 Nuggles Tuck-Wrap-Go Cover
I’m going to make the clarification that the Size 1 and Size 2 covers are not created equal. My love for the Size 2 cover is not the same for the Size 1 cover. For most brands, the differences between sizes are seldom, but when it comes to Nuggles, the difference is prevalent.
This is a sized cloth diaper cover. If you’re just starting out with cloth diapering, sized cloth diapers can seem financially wasteful because who wants to buy a few different sets of cloth diaper stashes? Not I. However, if you are upgrading or refreshing your stash, or getting started with a bigger baby, sized cloth diapers can be a great fitting option for you. The size 1 version is suitable for 6-20lbs.
The Tuck-Wrap-Go Cover in a size 2 suitable for 15-40lbs and this is about a 4-6 month child into toddlerhood. It is a sized cover, but it is also adjustable in its rise settings to allow for a bigger range. This is a 2×2 set up in the front of the diaper with double waist snaps.
Other perks to this cloth diaper cover are the double leg gusset, front and rear flaps and double PUL.
The inside flap also has a piece of elastic, or fold over elastic which helps keep the insert tucked in. This gives a little more assistance for those who love to tuck in inserts.
What goes inside the Nuggles Cover?
Anything you want. You can use Nuggles products like the Nuggles Fitted cloth diaper or any of the absorbent inserts.
You can also put any other brand inside of it like a Sloomb Fitted diaper or use it with my favourite CHEAP insert – the receiving blanket.
This is a larger fitting cloth diaper cover and I find that’s is best for fitted cloth diapers but works for anything you have your heart set on.
Do I love it?
I absolutely love the Nuggles cover for fitted diapers, but when I use an insert I tend to get an awkward diaper bulge… Which is purely cosmetic because really it’s never leaked.
The double gussets and size of this diaper really make it suited to tackling your big bulky absorbency challenges. However, when it comes to super trim inserts and a trim fit, it’s not the best choice. If you’re looking for something to use with your single Geffen Baby insert (for example) I would recommend the Nuggles Simplee. I know it’s a pocket, but it gives a much nicer trim fit for thin diapers compared to the Nuggles Cover.
The cover is amazing over prefolds, receiving blankets, and fitted diapers. It’s also a really great cover to use over a folded on flat diaper or prefold.
My mom’s evil washing machine destroyed the insides of some of my older diapers but because they are double PUL, I still don’t get leaks. The quality and durability of the material is definitely top-notch, but it is sensitive to knicks or zippers in washing machines. Do not wash with zippers.
I love how this diaper has fit my bigger, chunkier kids. I have thick kids with good sized thighs and we’ve never had a problem with the fit of the size 2 cover. The size 1 we did, but that’s because the size 1 cover is more designed for skinny babies (something I do not have).

Child is 20 months, 25lbs, Size 2T
It really does fit a solid 15-40lbs, and the Nuggles Cover is one of the last covers my toddler beast could wear before he outgrew one size diapers. I love that it is a great choice for big babies. I know many parents struggle with finding cloth diapers for kids who are pushing 25-30lbs, and the Nuggles Cover is definitely my recommendation for you.
Would I recommend the Nuggles Cover?
Yes. This is for sure my first recomnedatino for anyone with a bigger kid, who needs something to go over a fitted diaper and who loves a double gusset, double PUL kinda durability. This is a great cloth diaper and it might just be the diaper you build your stash around, like mine. It’s the diaper I’ve held onto despite downsizing, and it’s one I continue to buy regadless of my job.
Yes, I get frustrated with diaper bulge and wish this was a three snap set up because *i think it might be more trim* but this diaper has never ever leaked on us, so I put up with it and just love functionality over fashion.
The Nuggles Cover is my husband’s favourite cloth diaper – learn more about his cloth diaper preferences on the cloth diaper podcast.
It’s important to know that this diaper isn’t like the other diapers, the ideas around pushing the rise up are less important in my experience. The rise just sits fine regardless.
It is also important to get the Nuggles Cover fitted right. Many struggles with the fit and the diaper really need to be folded and outer gusset elastics placed in the crease of the leg. This really applies to all diapers and learning to fold the diaper like a hotdog and snug it into the leg creases will make a world of a difference on the right fit of any cloth.

Questions? Let me know. I’ll do a YouTube video in the weeks to come.
I couldn’t get passed the diaper bulge, personally! I wish there were three snaps across to prevent that. And with how big these are, when my kids are so small, this has been the one diaper cover I could never get to work for us. The size 1 would probably be better for us.
This print is SO cute!
Your previous Nuggles reviews definitely got me to buy their covers. I’m a first time mom and am excited to try these out. The 7 Nuggles covers I got already feel far superior in quality to the 3 Thirsties duo-wraps but mind you they haven’t been put to use yet. I feel like the Thirsties are much thinner and maybe that lightness is good for some reason…I will soon find out. Still need to narrow down one more brand to “try” for my beginner cover stash.
I do have a question though, what am I supposed to do for the first wash? I can’t find a straight answer online. Does the first wash for PUL lined covers still need cloth diaper “safe” detergent? Care to share which detergent you use?
