We’ve already purchased our snow boots for this winter, partly because I now own a children’s boutique in Prince George, and partly because my child grew over the summer. We went from a size 12 to as size 2 – which means we are now in the land of ‘youth snow boots’ or bigger kids sizes. This size between baby and adult is an interesting one and I find the selection for shoes shifts, not always for the better —– ps, if you haven’t visited the Bo Peep Boutique in Quesnel for children’s shoes, you should. They don’t have a website, but they have an amazing selection of shoes and I was totally impressed.
Nonetheless, owning winter boots for your kids in August isn’t the craziest of things we’ve had some cold days already and the winter boots we opted for have already been a hit! This season we’re venturing out of our typical Stonz and towards a brand called Emu Australia which makes a boot that is slip on wool lined boot and it’s magically wonderful. I brought these into the store because they were different, they had a sustainability message, and they felt like a good fit – finding the right soho for parents to shop can be hard.
The boot my daughter picked out is the Rainbow Unicorn Brumby Waterproof Children’s Winter Boot. And I think it’s the perfect girl winter boot – that said, some of the bigger kids are not into pink anymore. I’m not sure but if that’s your kid you should check out the chestnut or solid colour Brumby winter boots – equally stylish choice for your Canadian 8 year old.
And if you’re shopping for a toddler this winter – check out the toddler winter boots. So freaking cute with little animals including a unicorn winter boot for early walkers.

We love that they are a wool boot that gives you both warmth and breathability. Wool is seriously amazing and since my child hates when her feet feel warm, sweaty or touched by any shoe the wool boots have been a go to favourite. Seriously, she wears them all the time, and never with socks. Now we haven’t tested the -30C rating they supposedly should stand up to because it’s only august, but the breathability and daytime comfort on a hot august day tells me they do what wool does best and is exactly why you should consider a wool winter boot for your kids this winter. Lined with 100% Australian Merino wool, the boots cocooned my daughter’s feet in a cozy embrace, making her feel like she was walking on clouds even in the frostiest temperatures.
A Stamp of Quality: The Rainbow Unicorn Brumby isn’t just any winter boot; it’s Woolmark Accredited, a testament to its exceptional quality and craftsmanship. With each wear, I felt assured that my daughter was enjoying the best in terms of materials and design.
Waterproof & Winter Ready
As a mom who values both style and functionality, I was thrilled to find that the Rainbow Unicorn Brumby is made with a unique custom designed waterproof suede that keeps my daughters feet dry no matter what puddle she steps into. WE have yet to find a puddle that can make these boots wet.

If you found this winter boot review, your probably like come on Bailey – you own Nest & Sprout. I know, but like I’m seriously impressed with this shoe. I did a ton of research looking for great products to bring into the shop and for a boot that my daughter would love. She hated her winter boots last year, and we always end up with cheap boots that fall apart. This year, we found an easy on off style that fits her needs and my needs.
And I kind of wanted to tell you about that – I wanted to scream it from the roof which is why I’m hear on my personal blog. I see that this year Emu Australia is being carried at more and more children’s boutiques. I dont’ want you to buy from me, I want you to buy from the closest shop to you and support your local owners.
As our shop expands, we look to serve Prince George, and I’m so excited to find a boot my daughter loves to wear, and the fun bold pink unicorn pattern gives us so much joy that I can’t wait for it to pair with the best winter gear ever for Canada (yes, we’ll also have that at the shop )
