I’m just not a music person, so when I hit the road for a roadtrip, I seek out something else to listen to. In the past, I’ve listened to audiobooks, but I must admit, my attention span is fleeting and I never remember what happened twenty minutes ago, let alone 4 hours earlier in the book. That’s why I’ve turned to Podcasts, and our last trip to Vancouver, I binged listened to podcasts for over 20 hours (round trip).
The kids, we’ve gone tech free. It makes for happier kids.
Some people like fiction, but I’m die hard into non-fiction. I just love learning. My favourite podcasts are parenting related because I’m always looking to be better and be reminded of the amazing mom I am and can be. For me, it’s refreshing to learn new strategies on how to handle my children and my journey through parenthood, while knowing I’m not alone.
Podcasts for the Modern Mama
Here’s a few great listens you can turn when the kids go down for a nap, in a long car ride, or when you just need some noise to make yourself feel a little less alone. These are some great options for podcasts for the modern mama to listen to wherever she may be in your mamahood journey.
Atomic Moms
I’ve been listening to Atomic Moms for years. This show is my gateway drug into parenting podcasts and continues to be my personal favourite. Ellie Knaus is unbelievably relatable, hilarious and adorable. While sometimes she’s a little squirrely, I can’t help but continue to listen and feel inspired by everything she says and inspires us to be. Find her on iTunes.
It helps Ellie has children about my age. Her daughter is about 4, so a year ahead of mine, and I enjoy watching another mother go through the hoops before me.
Mom and Dad are Fighting
Mom and Dad are Fighting is a podcast brought to you by Slate Magazine and is a little bit of everything when it comes to parenting. It features a panel of voices with all sorts of parenting ages and backgrounds. I found some podcasts weren’t relatable due to the age of my children, but the stories, wisdom, and conversation was engaging and worth soaking up in my path to learning how to parent. Find it here on iTunes.
This podcast is marked E. E doesn’t mean everyone it means explicit language.
The Purpose Show
Forewarning this podcast has a bit of Christian lifestyle theme. Regardless, The Purpose Show is filled with inspirational motherhood and minimalism. Hosted by Allie Casazza, I thoroughly have enjoyed many of the episodes, and the ones with a Christian spin were equally inspiring with a take message I felt I could resonate with. Find it here on iTunes.
One Bad Mother
This next podcast is a little bit crass, but if you could use a dose of reality and a good chuckle check out One Bad Mother. This duo brings a feisty personality to the screen as they discuss parenting and the challenges that follow. I loved listening to other mom rants. That’s so my life and makes it feel like I have mom group in the house when I just want to be a homebody and be the social anxiety riddled introvert I am. Find it here on iTunes.
Know another inspirational parenting podcast?
Drop me a comment below. The search function on iTunes is absolutely terrible and I can never find what I’m more amazing podcasts for the modern mom. There’s something soothing and relaxing about just listening to other people struggle like you, and inspire you to be better. I love having the conversation even without the people around me.
Enjoy.
