You know when you discover a product and you’re like “woah, this is a must-have, why has nobody done this before?” That’s how I felt when I discovered Puppi Diapers on Instagram. Now, I’m just showcasing a few great images and thoughts on this diaper, but I haven’t washed it, land it or tried it yet. I’ve had this beautiful diaper sitting on my desk for 6 months now, and I just needed to show it off, and start getting some feedback because I’ve seen mixed reviews from North American families.
I’ve had the great pleasure of having a few interactions with the owner of Puppi Diapers on Instagram. I know that’s she passionate about providing simple solutions to cloth diapering and crushing some of the myths. She does translate a lot of her content, so definitely check her out on Instagram to follow the brand more.
About Puppi Diapers
Puppi Diapers is a Polish brand handmaking diapers with a focus on biodegradable fabrics – which is why you’ll find only natural fibres at this online retailer. Like many of us, they were looking for the perfect diaper and didn’t find what they wanted so they made it out.
Wanting to ditch synthetics, including PUL, Puppi diapers brings you a line of fitted diapers and wool covers that use only biodegradable materials right down to the biodegradable, certified elastics made of organic cotton and natural rubber.
Recently Puppi Diapers was brought into Green Mountain Diaper Company in the United States.
The Puppi Wool Cover
We’ve seen wool covers like this one from HumBird, or the ever popular Sloomb Knit covers, but have you ever seen a snap-on cover that looks and feels like any other cloth diaper system? Not until now.
Available in four sizes (newborn, mini one size, one size, and one size plus), the Puppi Wool Cover is a Merino Wool cover with an adjustable rise setting, elastic legs/back, and waist tabs. It’s just like any other cloth diaper but made of two layers of soft, thin, 100% merino wool that is produced and sewn in Poland.
Features of the Puppi Merino Wool Diaper Cover
- Estimated for 6-15kg (13lbs – 33lbs)
- 3×3 rise setting to adjust to baby’s size
- Interior Snaps for snap-in inserts (use like an all in two system)
- Works with pad folds and inserts.
- all the benefits of wool (breathable, temperature regulation, soft, and naturally antibacterial)
- Hang to dry between uses (many families have no more than 4-5 diaper covers)
Things to know before you buy
- If you want to use this type of cover overnight, you might opt for the One Size Plus for more width, the one size is a narrow and trim wool diaper cover.
- Covers do need to be hand washed and lanolized before use.
- This is a trim fitting diaper – think of Buttons or Best Bottom systems, and not Petite Crown or Blueberry Capri covers.
Puppi Wool Cover Review & Reflection
This is a seriously beautiful diaper and it feels too good to be true. Like many wool cloth diapers my fear is that I’ll ruin this beautiful diaper, but I should know better because wool is not as temperamental as I think it is (as per the podcast with Stephanie from Bumby Wool) and a fantastic choice for families.
It doesn’t have any waterproof barriers besides relying on the wool and your land to be that barrier. This can be less foolproof that PUL and could result in leaks or wicking depending on the saturation of the insert, and the condition of the wool.
What does that garble mean – it means human error is more likely to occur and you might experience mishaps, leaks, and wicking. That is diapering, and if you are passionate about finding a diaper solution that uses less synthetics, you’re going to be okay with it. I know that I would be okay with it because just laundry, and it’s just a change of clothes, and in no time at all I would be a boss at how to use my wool covers.
I feel that if I had a child in diapers right now, this would easily be a favourite because as consumer, I’m looking for simpler diaper systems with natural fibres at their core.
I also ordered an insert – because you gotta check out all the things when you buy a diaper from Poland. You can use pad folded prefold diapers or Inserts with diaper system. Puppi does sell a matching snap-in Quick & Easy inserts.
- 70% Bamboo, 28% Organic Cotton, 2% Polyster
- Sizes – Newborn, Mini & Standard
This insert is incredibly soft, and just lovely. I love that it’s kinda flannel material instead of a Terry loop. It’s not too thick and it’s no too thin. It has good weight to it and really looks like it could do the job. It reminds me of an AMP Insert. I have in the wash to review and absorbency test once I do my video for this product.
My Recommendation: Puppi Wool Diaper Cover
This is a beautiful product that is exceptionally made by a passionate creator of the industry. Even if I had a baby, not all diapers work for all people. So this might be the right choice for you if the idea of hand washing and lanolin doesn’t jive.
But what’s amazing about wool is it is low maintenance and you would only be washing every few weeks – yes, a wool diaper cover could go a week or two without washing. It’s low maintenance in the best of sense. And could be easily be rinsed and air dried when needed to reduce smells and urine build up.
But it’s a fantastic choice for people looking for a trimmer solution to wool diapering what offers the versatility of snaps with modern features of an all in two diaper.
I encourage you to check out other reviews of the Puppi Wool Diaper Cover to see if this would be a great addition to your family.
