“I want to be like you”
“Wow, you’re doing so much, and have so many great connections”
“Maybe, I can be a blogger too…”
Yes, yes you can do it all and do all those things. I don’t want to squash any dreams, but I also want to take a moment to bring everyone in full circle for a group huddle. I have been trying to be a cloth diaper influencer for over 5 years.
👩💻I spent a few years just doing it as a hobby.
👩💻I spent an entire year dedicated to growth and content
👩💻I pivoted and decided what I was doing wasn’t working, and didn’t feel good anymore, and created the Cloth Diaper Podcast.
👩💻 I’ve now spent two years working on the cloth diaper podcast – I contribute an average of 4 hours a day to creating content, helping people, thinking about things, and updating my websites and answering emails.
My annual income for 2020 – was just about $10K. And that’s because I have a viral blog post unrelated to Cloth Diapering that went wild at the start of the Pandemic and now earns me serious affiliate money. If you look at just my cloth diaper related content revenue – its’ more like $3K for 2020. And then you have to account the increase server fees, software fees, and basically bring in like $700 cash…
The only reason I can do this is because my husband is incredible and lets me focus on my hobby and because I have a part time job that provides just enough income to cover childcare costs.
This is INCREDIBLE PRIVILEGE and I recognize EVERY SINGLE DAY that not everyone can do this – and that’s a serious problem. So when I talk about valueing creators and I champion brands for paying me for my time – what I’m trying to do is reset the standards in this industry so that more people can contribute and feel valued.
A few thoughts this morning as I have been chatting with people in real life, and my husband has too – and we think about who can actually do this and who cant – for me it never really came easily, I don’t feel like I’m that beautiful IG house or content. I have a hard time with click bait headlines. And my focus exclusively to cloth diaper niche didn’t help. #clothdiapers #bloggers#yxs
