Pinterest gives you the craziest ideas, and at some point in my life I stumbled upon adult cake smash pictures and thought – man, that would be fun. And, yes it was fun. I would totally do this again for every birthday.
I don’t recall how the idea came up with Veronique from Cedar + Oak Photography in Prince George, but before we knew it I picked out a dress, ordered a crown (check this one on Etsy – affiliate link), and bought cake from Kristin Joy Cakes.
I’m Really Excited to Turn 30
Like legit. I am so excited for this next decade. I feel like I’ve spent my 20s trying to figure things out, and while I don’t really know what I’m doing, I’m excited to be older.
With my 30s, I’m hoping to make better decisions, to be more authentically myself, and stop trying to people please. I’m excited to grow my businesses, my blogs, and continue to write for people. I wrote my first book this past year, and I can’t wait to write another book.
I know my writing on my blog is sometimes a little sloppy, but that’s okay, this is my space. When I write for other people, I slow down and think about things. But sometimes, on a blog, I just want to be sloppy and authentically write like I would talk.
It’s funny to me that I got docked so many points in university and college for my causal writing, but here I am being hired by brands and businesses to write for them in a casual way. The internet has changed so much about the world. I love it. I love everything about it.
Cake Smash Tips (from a seasoned pro).
Seasoned because I’ve done one cake smash and I have regrets.
My only regret is not smashing the cake. It was so pretty and it was so hard to think about getting dirty, but I should have just smashed the cake. When my husband came to pick me up, he smashed it for me. Ah, that inspiration.
Also, I wish my husband had come and taken a picture with me. He had just come off a double night shift and was not feeling so good.
The best part about the cake smash was doing it with my friend. I should have asked my husband to take a picture of Veronique and I together. But this was a silly goofy memory that I’ll remember forever. I’m so grateful for her in my life and I don’t know where I would be without her inspiration and admiration. It’s been such an honour to watch her grow this year as a photographer; and even though I feel weird having her take my picture she is incredible in every way.
You should do a cake smash.
Or at least celebrate your birthday with a photo shoot. There’s something incredibly awesome about the camera being on you. Maybe that’s my astrology speaking and love of attention, but it was fun to just be me and not the kids, and not my husband and not for Christmas cards, but just be. Just be something to celebrate me.
Celebrate the things you do in your life.
