A friend stopped into the shop this weekend, and our conversation still sits with me. She had been an integral part of my early days in motherhood, and we chatted about how what the shop is not about the product but about the service.
And it’s that service of retail that I need to sit down and connect with each of my team members.
I really don’t want people to buy more stuff. But I really believe they need spaces to learn what to buy and how to use it.
We’ve lost a lot of informal sharing of knowledge in the worlds we live in – and with all my heart, we need that again.
The store does that.
Every time I scribble the name of a postpartum support service, pass on a card to another retailer, or encourage someone to repurpose something at home.
The products let me live a life of service in a way that feels more authentic than the other methods I’ve tried.
Sometimes retail feels like the problem, but it can be part of the solution.
